Create Steam images in the exact sizes

Resize one Steam image or turn one key art into a complete store and library pack. Every dimension is checked against Steamworks, and nothing is uploaded to a server.

Assets you export one at a time

Three Steam assets are not in the pack above, because none of them is a crop of your key art. Export each of these from the Image Resizer instead.

  • Library Logomax 1280×720px · PNG

Your game logo on a transparent background. It keeps its own shape inside a 1280×720 bounding box, so it is never padded or stretched to fill a frame.

  • App Icon184×184px · JPG

Shown wherever Steam has no room for a full capsule: the library list, chat favourites and notifications. Steamworks accepts this one as JPG only.

  • Shortcut Icon256×256px · PNG

The desktop shortcut icon created when someone installs your game. Steam takes .ico or .png, and this exports the PNG.

Playing on Steam, not publishing?

Two of the most-searched Steam sizes belong to players rather than developers. Both are in the Image Resizer.

  • Profile picture (pfp)184×184px

Steam derives the 64×64 friends-list and 32×32 chat versions from this same upload, so starting at 184×184 keeps small details readable everywhere. It is the same size as the developer App Icon above but a completely different asset — pick Avatar under Steam Profile.

  • Custom artwork, cover art, poster or grid art600×900px

All four names mean the same portrait tile Steam calls the Library Capsule. It is 600×900 whether you are replacing the art on your own copy of a game or shipping a store asset.

Steam asset questions

What are the exact Steam capsule sizes?

Header Capsule 920×430, Small Capsule 462×174, Main Capsule 1232×706 and Vertical Capsule 748×896. All four are required for a store page, and each appears in a different discovery surface, so one stretched master is not a substitute for four deliberate crops. Steam stopped accepting the older dimensions in August 2024.

What size is Steam library artwork?

Library Capsule 600×900, Library Header 920×430, Library Hero 3840×1240 and Library Logo up to 1280×720 on a transparent background. The Hero has a 860×380 safe area in the centre for anything that must stay visible, and Steam auto-generates the half-size 1920×620 copy from your upload, so you never provide that one yourself.

What size is Steam grid art, cover art or a game poster?

600×900 pixels. Grid art, cover art, poster and boxart are all common names for the portrait tile Steam itself calls the Library Capsule — the vertical cover you see in the library grid. It is the same size whether you are a developer uploading a store asset or a player replacing the art on your own copy of a game.

What sizes does Steam custom artwork use?

The same slots as the official library assets, so nothing extra is needed: boxart or grid art 600×900, hero 3840×1240 and the wide header 920×430. If you have seen 1920×620 quoted for the hero, that is not a competing spec — it is the half-size copy Steam generates automatically from the 3840×1240 upload.

What size is a Steam Artwork Showcase?

The showcase displays at 632px wide when it is the featured single-column block, or 508px for the main image plus a 102px side column in the two-column layout. Those are container widths taken from Steam's own profile stylesheet — Valve publishes no spec, and the 630/506/100 numbers repeated across guides are about 2px under the real values. Importantly, Steam does not shrink your upload to fit: sampling real profile artwork found images stored at up to 3000px wide and scaled down only on delivery, so uploading larger looks sharper on high-density screens. Height is free above a 100px minimum, and the limit that actually matters is 5MB per artwork file.

What is the Steam game icon size?

Steam has two different icons, which is why the answers you find disagree. The App Icon is 184×184 as a JPG, used where there is no room for a full capsule: the library list, chat favourites and notifications. The Shortcut Icon is 256×256 as .ico or .png, and becomes the desktop shortcut when someone installs the game.

What is the Steam pfp size?

184×184 pixels. Steam accepts a larger upload and scales it down, but it also derives the 64×64 version in your friends list and the 32×32 version next to chat and comments from that same file, so starting at exactly 184×184 is what keeps small details readable at every size.

Why is the Library Logo not in the ZIP?

Because its spec is a bounding box, not a canvas: Steam asks for a logo either 1280 wide and/or 720 tall on a transparent background, with its own aspect ratio preserved. Every other slot is an exact pixel target that a crop can be locked to. Forcing a logo into a literal 1280×720 frame would stretch or wrongly pad it, so it is exported on its own instead.

Is my artwork uploaded anywhere?

No. Every crop and export runs in your browser using the canvas API, and the ZIP is assembled locally too. Your key art never leaves your machine, there is no account, and there is no watermark.
